Alex F. Hajdu

Alex Frank “Uncle Shine” Hajdu Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2017 in his sleep after a two year battle of complications due to a fall.

He was a lifelong resident of Daisytown, PA, born to the late Alex F. Hajdu Sr. and Julia (Billie) Hajdu on December 27, 1929.  Alex was the last remaining member of his immediate family.

Alex was a coal miner by trade but his heart was always on the farm.  He raised the best beef and grew a bounty of beautiful vegetables from his many gardens, this he was always happy to share with others.

In addition to his parents Alex was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jean (Kostoff) Hajdu on September 29, 2014 and a son, William "Byrd" Hajdu on December 27, 2012.

Left to cherish his memory are three children, Rick Hajdu and wife Cindy of Daisytown, PA, Linda and Bill Cairns “ Nooks and Chud” of California, PA, with whom he made his home these last few years, and Lisa Fowler and her significant other Michael Bobrosky, of Blainesburg, PA.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Shane Hajdu, Rachel Weiss and husband Steve, Chelsea Hajdu, and Eric Rucci along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a lifelong member of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church, the Hungarian Club and the A.C. Club, all of Daisytown.

Friends will be received in the Mariscotti Funeral Home, Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, PA on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and until 11:00 am on Thursday, August 24, when funeral services will be held in the funeral home with Pastor Beverly Bonnell officiating.

Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.
