Barbara Lee (Furlong) O'Savage

Barbara Lee O'Savage, 77, of Roscoe, PA, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

She was born October 7, 1946, in West Brownsville, PA, a daughter of the late William and Nellie (McMaster) Furlong Stiveson, Stepdaughter to Joe Stiveson.

A dedicated social worker whose life was defined by her unwavering commitment to helping others and making meaningful differences in the lives of those less fortunate. Her passion and dedication garnered numerous awards and accolades, recognizing her exceptional contributions to the field.  She obtained her Master of Social Work at Cal-U in 2009.  Her career culminated as an associate professor at Cal-U.

Barbara cherished her daily walks with her beloved dogs and socializing with her treasured neighbors.  She loved nature and the beauty of wildlife in her backyard.  Her lifelong friendship with Barbara Joyce Matola was a source of enduring laughter, companionship, and mutual support through the years.  A devoted member of Roscoe United Methodist Church, Barbara's faith was central to her life. She found spiritual fulfillment in Bible study and participating actively in church activities, where her warmth and generosity touched the lives of many.

Barbara's greatest source of pride and joy was her family. She shared a deep and enduring love with her husband Jack, whose unwavering support was a constant source of strength. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and precious memories for the entire family. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Furlong.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, Jack E. O'Savage,  two children, Jack O'Savage and wife Dara of Stroal Acres, and Lisa Savage of Roscoe; brother, Ed Furlong; and sister, Judith Luda.  Also surviving are five grandchildren,  Taylor Kudlik, Jena Kudlik, Hanna O'Savage, Addie O'Savage, and Nathan O'Savage.

Friends will be received in the Mariscotti Funeral Home, Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, PA on Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 3 to 5 pm.  Funeral services will begin at 5 pm with Rev. Brian Carroll  officiating.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of her family.
