Charles Allshouse Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Russell Allshouse, 96, formerly of California, PA, and Vero Beach, FL, passed away peacefully with family by his side at The Residence at Hilltop on May 20, 2025. Born on February 7, 1929, in Charleroi, PA, he was the son of the late Margaret and Harrison Allshouse.

Chuck proudly enlisted in the United States Navy on his 17th birthday, serving during World War II as a parachute packer stationed in Guam. Following his honorable discharge, he began working at Corning Glass, where he met the love of his life, Agnes. They were married for 75 years.

He was preceded in death by Agnes, and by his son-in-law, Thomas Cole.

Chuck worked for A&P and later as store manager at Brodak’s. A dedicated member of his community, he coached Little League baseball, served as the California Area High School tennis coach and volunteered his time with the marching band.

A talented trombone player, Chuck was a member of the Bentleyville, Mars, and Brownsville bands. He also founded and led the Key Notes Band in Vero Beach, Florida. In addition to music, he enjoyed writing songs and stories, playing tennis, and taking long walks.

Chuck was known for his quick wit, love of jokes, and ever-upbeat personality. He brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Gloria Cole and Nancy Metzner; grandchildren, Kellie (Cole) McCrory, Sherri (Cole) Malone, Brandy (Metzner) Umdenstock, and Ernie Metzner; and great-grandchildren, Mason McCrory, Mailey McCrory, Nicholas McNew, and Aiden Gilbert-Metzner.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Residence at Hilltop and OSPTA Hospice for their compassionate care.
