George Edward Messick

George Edward Messick, 93, of Clarence, PA, formerly of Whitaker, PA died Thursday, July 6, 2017.

 

He was born Friday, October 19, 1923, in Hawk Run, PA, a son of the late Michael and Mary (Lesko) Messick.

 

He was a member of the Dormition of the Mother of God Byzantine Catholic Church in Clarence, PA and the Whitaker Volunteer Fire Department.  George proudly served in the Army during WWII from 1942 until 1945.  He then went to work for U.S. Steel, Homestead Works retiring after 44 years where he was an electrical crane operator.  He and his wife moved to Clarence where he was a member of the American Legion Post 813 and the Senior Citizen’s Group of Snow Shoe, PA.

 

In addition to his parents George was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Michael and Edward Messick and 2 sisters, Josephine Kozak and Margaret Rebar.

 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years Helen (Biggans) Messick; four children, Dennis Messick Sr. and wife Elaine of Ellsworth, PA, Judy Antol and husband Ron of Crawfordville, FL, Donald Messick and wife Miriam of Forrest Hills, PA, and Ron Messick and wife Sherry of Long Branch, PA; 7 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Catherman and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Friends will be received for a Funeral Divine Liturgy in the Dormition of the Mother of God Byzantine Catholic Church in Clarence, PA on Friday July 14, 2017 at 11:00 am with Fr. James Ragan as Celebrant.

 

Interment will follow in the Church’s Cemetery where the Clarence American Legion Post 813 will accord military services.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Dormition of the Mother of God Byzantine Catholic Church, 104 Byzantine Lane, Clarence, PA 16829 or the Southwest Veteran’s Center, 7060 Highland Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15206.

 

George’s family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Southwest Veteran’s Center for the excellent and compassionate care extended to him over the past few months.

 

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mariscotti Funeral Home, Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, PA.
