Lucy Marie Kuhar, born June 4, 1939, in Clover Hill, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Our dear Lucy Marie was released from her courageous battle with cardiovascular disease and dementia.

Lucy Marie was proud to be the granddaughter, daughter, and wife of coal miners. A tomboy at heart, she grew up on a dairy farm where she developed her strong work ethic—rising early to milk cows, driving a tractor by age 10, and spending joyful days with her cousins. After the passing of her father when she was just 12, Lucy, her mother Mary, and her sister Eleanor moved to “Little Washington.”

She graduated from Washington High School and was honored as an honorary member of the California High School Class of 1957. Following graduation, she worked at the local glass factory and later dedicated decades of service to the dietary department at Presbyterian SeniorCare.

Lucy Marie met the love of her life, William Kuhar, Sr., at the roller rink in Richeyville. After a playful start—giving him the wrong name—she eventually agreed to a date. Six years later, they married on June 27 and celebrated 62 years of marriage in 2021. Together, they enjoyed polka dances at the Slovak Club, Corvette car cruises, and competing in the UMWA Senior Games.

A natural hostess, Lucy Marie delighted in bringing people together at elaborate children’s birthday parties, legendary New Year’s Eve celebrations, or spontaneous gatherings with neighbors and friends at the Kuhar home on Springfield Avenue. Her warm spirit and unforgettable “Lucy-isms” made her beloved by all who knew her.

Lucy Marie is survived by her daughter, Dayna Kuhar; her son, William Kuhar, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Jane Kuhar; cousin Wayne Newman; sister-in-laws Norma Jean Hayden, Joann Saghy, Gloria Kuhar; brother-in-laws Andrew Kuhar and John Ranelli; step-grandchildren Tiffany Drake, James and Mindy Drake; and great-grandchildren Morgan Campbell, Hudson Drake, and Ozzy Drake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Kuhar family is extremely grateful for the care she received over the years from the staff at Southminster Place and Southmont.
