Mary Alfano, 93, of California, was called to be with the Lord on August 4, 2025.
Born in Whitsett, PA on February 10, 1932, to George and Dorothy (Bogunovich) Vignjevich, Mary was one of nine children. She was the last living member of her family. Mary was predeceased by her parents, beloved brothers Donald, George (Pete), Nick, Ron, Eli, Mike (Mitch), Sammy and sister Dorothy (Twick).
On December 28, 1963, Mary married the love of her life, Frank “Fritz” Alfano who is also deceased. Mary was a hard worker and worked in a sewing factory for many years prior to her marriage. From the time she was married until it’s closing after over 40 years, Mary worked at Alfano’s Restaurant in downtown California. She also worked several years at the California Dairy Queen.
She is survived by her son, Joseph and his wife Kasia of Farmington, CT, her grandson Dominic and wife Sarah of Farmington, CT and her granddaughter, Isabella, also of Farmington, CT. Both of her grandchildren were the light of her life. Also surviving is her dear sister-in-law, Ann, her many nieces and nephews and several of her close friends.
Family will receive friends in the Mariscotti Funeral Home, Inc. Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, PA on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 6-8 pm and until 11 am on Friday when funeral services will begin with Rev. Phil Lavery officiating
Mary was a good, humble, and generous person and always had a smile on her face. She was willing to help her family and friends at a moment’s notice and did so with a kind and caring disposition.
Heaven is now graced with a new angel. But she will always be missed here on earth.
