Melanie Lynn Gorecki (née Zemany) died peacefully at Fair Oaks Senior Living in Dormont on January 31st. The daughter of Charles Zemany and Jean (Underwood) Zemany, Melanie was born and raised in California, PA.
A graduate of California Area High School and California University of Pennsylvania with a teaching degree, Melanie explored numerous careers, including real estate and nursing. In the late 90s she began working for the University of Pittsburgh epidemiology department, from which she retired in 2014.
A passionate animal lover, Melanie loved to tell stories of the dogs and cats she had growing up and was known for spontaneously adopting animals throughout her life. She loved spending time with dear friends and sitting on a glider on her porch, but nothing brought her more joy than her two daughters, Rebecca (Ethan) Solak and Amanda Gorecki. Melanie loved travel; her favorite place on earth was the lakeside cabins her grandparents built in Ontario, Canada.
In addition to Rebecca and Amanda, Melanie leaves behind her granddaughter Josephine Solak and her siblings Nancy (Lee) West, Linda (Jerry) Gearhart, and Spandy Zemany, along with numerous loving nieces and nephews.
