Mildred Louise Jukes

Mildred Louise Jukes, 96, of California, PA, formerly of Glenolden, PA, died Saturday, December 17, 2016.

 

She was born Wednesday, June 16, 1920, in Philadelphia, PA, a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Kitzmiller) Smith.

 

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Glenolden and the Presbyterian Women. For years she was a Den Leader for the Cub Scouts and a Music Booster for Interboro High School. She was employed by Interboro School District as a Library Aid in Glenolden Elementary School. In her spare time, Mildred loved sewing, crafts, painting, and doing counted cross-stitch, blessing many with years of artistic gifts. After moving to California, PA, her favorite activity was joining the “Lunch Bunch” for their monthly lunches.

 

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William H. Jukes Jr. (2011) and her sister, Margaret Varley.

 

Left to cherish her memory are four children, William H. Jukes III and wife Linda of The Villages, FL, Robert R. Jukes and wife Rosemary of Aston, PA, Louise C. Noel and husband Robert of Clayton, NC, and Dr. Linda Jukes of California, PA.  Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and her exchange daughter, Susan Beddy and husband Eddie of Johannesburg, South Africa.

 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Chris Lombardo for caring so tenderly for Mildred. In addition, the family would like to extend their thanks to Amedysis Hospice and the Donnell House for the care provided during her illness.

 

Friends will be received for 11:00 AM visitation, followed by a 12:00 PM memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church of Glenolden, 2 Chester Pike, Glenolden, PA on Thursday, December 29, 2016 with Rev. Faith Hill officiating. Interment will be in Knowles Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Glenolden, 2 Chester Pike, Glenolden, PA 19036.
