Rhonda D. Liggett, 66, of California, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 27, 2017, in the Donnell House in Washington, PA.

She was born on Wednesday, May 31, 1950, in Brownsville, PA, a daughter of the late James C. and Martha “Pug” (Andrus) Liggett.

Rhonda graduated from California Area High School and California University of PA with a Bachelor of Science and Masters in Education.  She taught in the Brownsville Area School District for 34 years before retiring in 2006.  She was a member of the the BEA and PSEA-NEA during her teaching career.  Rhonda enjoyed all that life had to offer.  She loved the Steelers and good food.  She was an avid golfer and recently got her first hole-in-one.  She was an adventurous international and national traveler and enjoyed hiking the National Parks. Throughout her fight with cancer, she taught those around her about grace and courage when facing adversity.  You would hear her say “It is what it is.”  She will be remembered and missed by many.

Left to cherish her memory are her brother, James Liggett and wife Sabrina of Terra Alta, WV; sister, Dawn Krauss and husband Ronald of Seminole, FL; nephews, Jamie Krauss and Tyler Krauss both of Seminole FL; aunts, Marlene Andrus of Frederick, MD, and Ione Andrus of Casper, WY; and many cousins and friends.

Rhonda was blessed with a loving family and a family of many wonderful and caring friends who were there for her during doctors’ visits, chemo sessions, hospital stays, and daily visits at the Donnell House.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Hillman Cancer Center, Shadyside Hospital, and especially the loving staff at the Donnell House in Washington.
