Roland Doc Pichard

Roland “Doc” Pichard, 95, of California, PA, died Saturday, May 21, 2016.

He was born Tuesday, January 18, 1921, in California, PA, son of the late Desire Pichard and the late Josephine VanVarenberg.

He was a member of American Legion JFK Post 377 of California, Charleroi Elks 494, and the California Historical Society;   Doc was a 1939 graduate of California High School.  He received the nickname "Doc" while working after school at Bumbera's Drug Store on Wood Street.  He was active with the American Legion baseball team for over 10 years.  In 1975 he was the activities Chairman of the 25th District for the American Legion.  He also acted as a business manager for the California Colts Baseball Team... He was a former Commander of the American Legion Firing Squad and Legionnaire of the year in 2001.  He is the last surviving member of his family.

In addition to his parents Doc was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Raymond and Albert Pichard, and 3 sisters, Rose Schoener, Thelma Brozic and Doris Ferro.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Bertha Pichard; two sons, Terry Pichard and wife Benita of California, PA, and Barry Pichard and wife Darla of Palm Bay, FL.  Also surviving are four grandchildren Desiree Poach and husband Jeff, Janina Pichard, Brent Pichard and wife Carrie, and Jared Pichard; seven great grandchildren, Jeffrey, Aiden, Ashlyn and Delaney Poach, Noah, Seth, and Emma Pichard

Friends will be received in the Mariscotti Funeral Home, Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, PA on Tuesday May 24, 2016 from 2 to 8 pm and until 11 am on Wednesday when funeral services will be held in the funeral home with Rev. Candace Cook officiating.

Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
