After a long struggle with cancer, Sarah Luella (Austin) Brewer, 83 of Brownsville, PA entered her eternal home on July 4, 2017. Luella was preceded in her death by her husband, Charles (Chuck) Brewer, her long time friend Angelo Quarzo, her parents, Sarah and Gaylord Austin, and her uncle, Alan Lyons.
Luella is survived by her older sister, Bernice Austin of Uniontown, PA, several cousins, and dear friends, Paula Quarzo of Uniontown, PA, Melissa Tunney of Grindstone, PA, and her Goddaughter Jeanett Lau Gattis of Chester, VA.
Luella will always be remembered as one who loved life, loved pink, loved shopping and was always beautifully dressed. Most people will remember her beautiful style, her class, her smile, her laugh, her friendliness, her wit, and how much she loved to talk! Being a telephone operator for more than 40 years was perfect for her. Luella worked most of her life with Bell Telephone (now Verizon) and then as a telephone operator for the Uniontown Hospital.
Luella worked hard all her life, not only in the workforce, but at home, dedicating her life to taking care of her parents, her sister Bernice, and her uncle, Alan, who lived with the Austin family. Luella travelled every day for over 20 years to take care of her sister, Bernice, at Lafayette Manor Nursing Home. She was a very devoted sister and was told more than once that her sister’s survival was due to her dedication. That dedication included visiting, feeding, buying and then washing clothes for Bernice which was all done with selfless love. Luella will be remembered for her care and devotion to Bernice. She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, cousin, niece, godmother and friend. She loved people and she loved the Lord. Not only did Luella enjoy singing in the choir at church, she also played the piano and organ for them too. When Lafayette Manor lost their directors for church services, Luella stepped in and helped lead the services. In addition to serving others, Luella was what you would call “A Goody Two Shoes” with a bit of “Spice”. She always tried to do right by people according to God’s word and wanted others to do the same. She frequently would tell you what she thought.
Luella was “One of a Kind”; she had a generous love for others and a big heart. She will be truly missed.
